Dennys Kitchen is located within the Wool Exchange of the National Wool Museum in Geelong. The restaurant takes its name from businessman Charles John Dennys, who built the original wool store with his nephew, Edward Harewood Lascelles in 1872.
The Heritage listed bluestone building was considered a masterpiece when it opened on 1 August 1872 and ultimately became the heart of Geelong’s international wool trade.
The revamped National Wool Museum was established in 1988 and Dennys Italian has been operating within the historic location since August 2014.
Geelong’s long history as a major wool-shipping port from the mid-19th century and well into the 20th century left a lasting legacy of beautifully restored old buildings such as the National Wool Museum.
The unique restaurant location and rustic charm from the original wool store is integral to the heart of Dennys Kitchen. The beautiful bluestone walls feature throughout in their restored natural state of glory and are considered a treasure by many.
