Now we all know it is the time of year to eat, drink and be very merry with our families and friends. Funnily enough- this is NOT a crime, it is called living your life! With 28 day challenges and your Bikini Babes splashing their theories around and hyperventilating on what to eat and what not to eat, dining out for some can be pretty challenging- especially when your friends book you into an Italian restaurant. Did someone say starchy carbs?? But never fear, the fantastic thing about the health epidemic we have on our hands and with allergies taking over the world, chefs and floor staff are only happy to be accommodating and willing to change items and dishes on the menu. Especially at Dennys!
So when you are out for dinner (whatever cuisine it may be) think about the dish and its accompaniments and ingredients, nine times out of ten you will be able to substitute naughty things for healthy things. For example, if you like the sound of the risotto, ask for it without butter and cheese and add some extra vegetables- eggplant, mushrooms, zucchini or pumpkin are all easy options to add and are usually ALWAYS in a kitchen. Look for options that aren’t fried or can come grilled for example fish and chicken and always grab a side of greens instead of fries.
But, in saying this, it is also very important to balance out your clean eating and healthy challenges with ‘cheat meals’ and ‘treat nights’. It is called being human and enjoying the simple things in life. Share a dessert with a friend, have a glass of wine and enjoy having the luxury of eating out- some don’t get the same pleasure.
